Hello, Lab Notebook
What the Lab Notebook covers and why we are writing it.
Read entry →Enter the runtime, power, voltage and size limits for your product. Amplan sizes the pack, designs the current collectors and cell holders, checks each requirement, and then builds the pack.
Packs are often specified by capacity before the mission is fully defined. Efficiency, peak power, size and weight are verified late, so shortfalls surface in testing rather than in design.
Current collectors, cell holders and voltage-sense wiring are usually drawn by hand in CAD. Clearances and weld locations are reviewed visually, so errors are easy to miss before parts are made.
Cells, interconnects, holders and the BMS come from separate suppliers, each with its own quotes, minimum orders and lead times. Coordinating them stretches every build schedule.
You enter what the product needs: flight time or range, continuous and peak power, system voltage, efficiency, size and weight limits, and operating temperature. Capacity and energy are calculated from these inputs.
Input · Mission requirements
The planner calculates the required energy and capacity, selects a cell from a library of about 35, and sets the series and parallel count. Each requirement is marked PASS, NEAR PASS or FAIL, with the margin shown. If a requirement fails, the planner suggests up to three alternative cells.
Output · Calculated
Using the cell, the series-parallel configuration and the terminal positions, the design module groups the cells and generates laser-cut nickel or copper current collectors, 3D-printable cell holders and voltage-sense wiring. Design rules are checked before any file is exported. If a check fails, export is blocked and the failed rule is reported.
The design is exported as laser-cutting files (DXF/SVG), holder models (STEP), a bill of materials and a job traveler. We use these files to source the parts, assemble the pack and ship it to you.

01 · Per-requirement results
Runtime, power, weight, size and temperature each get their own PASS, NEAR PASS or FAIL result, with the margin or shortfall shown.
02 · Design rule checks
Collector and holder geometry is checked against design rules before export. A design that fails a rule cannot be exported until it is corrected.
03 · Requirements to hardware
Sizing, mechanical design, sourcing and assembly are handled in one process, so the original requirements carry through to the finished pack.
Packs for mobile bases, robot arms and humanoids, where actuator peak current and a fixed chassis volume often determine the cell choice.
